Police Blotter: Debris in Roadway, Drug Possession, Theft from Cash Register

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

Report of debris in roadway leads to chase

White Lake Township police received a call at 4:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, to Teggerdine Road near Glynn, for debris in the roadway, said Chief of Police Edward Harris. According to Harris, the caller reported two individuals were placing several objects in the roadway, attempting to barricade it after a night of drinking.

An officer responded at 4:42 a.m. and removed the items from the roadway, Harris said. These items included a tire and other debris.

The officer noticed two sets of footprints in the snow, and followed them to the shore of Oxbow Lake and into a wooded area, he said. Hearing loud noises as the subjects ran northbound through the woods, the officer pursued the noise and subjects’ footprints across Oxbow Lake Shores Drive and across some backyards. The prints led near a sliding glass door on a home in the 300 block of Teggerdine Trail.

The officer saw a male suspect hiding up against a wall, and the man ran into the basement, the police report states. Additional officers arrived, and police entered the home through an unlocked ground floor window, Harris said. They had failed to gain access by knocking at the door or receiving permission, via their dispatcher, from a homeowner, he said.

Officers found two 19-year-old men, one who lives at the residence and one who lives nearby, he said. They were ticketed for disorderly conduct, intoxication, minors in possession of alcohol and impeding traffic, Harris said.

Two arrested for drug possession

At 2:57 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 9, a White Lake Township police officer made a traffic stop for an equipment violation, at Trenton Drive and Camden Court, Harris said. The officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the passenger area of the vehicle, he said.

The driver said there was marijuana in the front of the vehicle, on the floor of the passenger’s side, the police report states. In addition, as the officer had the driver get out of the vehicle and patted him down to check for weapons, the driver said there was a marijuana pipe under the front seat, Harris said.

The passenger told the officer the marijuana was his, and he was in the process of getting a medical marijuana card, the police report said. The report said the passenger did not have documentation of this with him.

In addition, the officer said he found a pouch containing suspected hallucinogenic mushrooms, under the front seat of the driver's side of the car, Harris said. The officer arrested the driver, a 20-year-old Waterford man, and the passenger, a 19-year-old Waterford man. After he posted bond, the driver was released pending lab results on the suspected hallucinogens, and the passenger was cited for possession of marijuana, the police report said. The passenger also was released after posting bond.

Subway employee cited for possible theft

Around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, an employee at the Subway inside Wal-Mart was seen taking approximately $40 from a cash register without permission, a White Lake Township police report said. An officer responded a couple of weeks later, Chief Harris said. The officer watched the surveillance video, seeing the 33-year-old White Lake woman open the register, take the cash into her hand and cover it with a dish rag, securing it in her pocket, the police report said.

The officer arrested the woman on charges of theft, Harris said. She was released pending a court date.

Larceny from a vehicle reported

Sometime between 11 p.m. on Dec. 2 and 6 a.m. on Dec. 3, someone broke into an unlocked Chevrolet Tahoe in the 6000 block of Rosewood Parkway, a White Lake Township police report said. The victim reported an iPod stolen, said Chief of Police Edward Harris.

The vehicle had been left unlocked, and the iPod was left in plain sight, the report said. There are no suspects, Harris said. He reminds citizens not to leave items in vehicles, and to lock doors of vehicles and homes.
