Chimney Catches Fire Day After Christmas

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

and the were called Monday to a home on Ponchartrain in White Lake after a chimney caught fire.

According to police Lt. Don Nankervis, the owner of the home had lit a fire in his wood-burning stove when he saw the chimney catch fire.

The man told police he was able to close the damper, and the fire was extinguished before police and firefighters arrived on the scene. The home was checked by firefighters for any structural damage. No damage was noted.

Woman caught taking DVDs

A 24-year-old White Lake resident was arrested Monday, accused of taking a number of DVDs, according to the police report.

Nankervis said loss prevention officers at witnessed the woman taking DVDs and leaving without paying. The officers detained the woman and called police.

According to the report, the woman told police she was taking the DVDs so she could sell them on the street for money to pay for food for her children.

The woman was taken to the police station where she was processed, issued a citation for retail fraud and released after paying a $100 bond.
