Crime Report: Man Tasered, Hit-and-Run Update

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Police were called to the scene of a single-car accident Thursday night on Oxbow Lake Road near DeGrand. According to police, they arrived to find a vehicle in a ditch and a 31-year-old man walking away from the scene.

Witnesses at the scene pointed the man out to the police, indicating his involvement. According to officers, when the man was asked to stop, he began running and police tasered him.

According to the report, the man was not fazed by the initial tase, and was tackled to the ground by an off-duty officer.

According to police, an altercation then ensued between the officer and the male. The man punched the officer, and a second taser charge was given to the man, subduing him.

Upon returning to the scene, witnesses identified the man in custody as the driver of the vehicle in the ditch. According to police, witnesses also said there was a passenger who fled from the scene before police arrived.

Police said the vehicle smelled like alcohol and obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s blood alcohol levels.

The suspect is currently in custody awaiting arraignment and could face charges of driving under the influence and assaulting an officer. If found guilty, this would be the suspect’s third DUI offense.

The passenger who fled the scene is still being sought. 

Hit-and-Run Update

New information has been obtained from the car mirror that police retrieved from the scene of a on June 20.

According to police, the product number on the mirror is consistent with a 2004 Chrysler Sebring and a 2004 Dodge Stratus. This mirror is compatible with a 4-door or a convertible, but not the 2-door model.

According to the victim, the vehicle is white. The vehicle also may have a broken passenger-side mirror.
