Dryer Powered by Illegal Gas Hookup Blows Up at White Lake Residence

were called to a home on the 5000 block of Touraine on Monday to assist the after an internal explosion in a gas-powered dryer started a fire.

Lt. Adam Kline said the owner had illegally bypassed the proper gas hookup, so the amount of gas being pumped into the dryer was more than the machine could handle.

The explosion was contained to the inside of the machine, and the home suffered only minor damage.

Kline said firefighters on the scene noticed that the owner had also bypassed his electric meter and was obtaining electricity illegally.

"We went to go question the owner, but he had fled from the home," Kline said.

The incident remains under investigation, and police are trying to contact the owner to question him about the illegal hookups.

Copper taken from vacant home

More than $1,500 in copper piping was taken from a vacant house on the 4000 block of Coastal Parkway sometime between Oct. 24-28.

Kline said the person or people responsible forced entry to the home through the garage door and the door leading from the garage to the kitchen.

There are no suspects at this time, and the incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 248-698-4400.

Lawn destroyed

Police are looking for the car responsible for damaging a lawn on the 5000 block of Nicole at 2 a.m. Sunday.

Kline said witnesses told police a small sedan backed into the yard to park for a party, then pulled out at a high rate of speed, causing damage to the lawn.

Police estimate damages to be approximately $500.
