Fire Department Starts New Non-Destructive Access Program

The program will help alleviate issues when the department has to respond to medical emergencies where the owners are disabled or elderly and unable to answer the door.

The White Lake Fire Department has started placing lock-boxes on homes of residents throughout White Lake wanting to participate in a new program.

These boxes are similar to what you might find placed on homes for sale by real estate companies, and lock-boxes contain keys to the homes that can then be used by firefighters and EMTs in the event of an emergency.

"The program is nice, because it saves us from having to break-in to home when there is a medical emergency and the homeowner can't get to the door to let us in," Cpt. Ted Lilley with the White Lake Fire Department said.

The boxes are provided by the department, and placed at homes at the request of homeowners.
