The Oakland County Sheriff's Office was called Oct. 22 to a home on North Shetland Court in Highland after the homeowners reported a fire.
When deputies arrived, they found a man in the driveway of the home attempting to put out a car that had caught fire.
According to the report, the car and surrounding area smelled heavily like gasoline.
The owner of the car spoke to the deputies and, the report states, told them she had been having some problems with one of her family members.
The woman told deputies that she had been arguing with a family member earlier in the day. When she returned home that night, the report states, she said she heard a loud whooshing noise and saw the car on fire in the driveway. She said she had just purchased the car, a 2002 Mercury, and hadn't had a chance to transfer the title yet.
Firefighters on the scene deemed the fire suspicious, and the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Fire Investigator was called to the scene.
The incident remains under investigation and deputies are following up on leads.
