Fire Started By Marijuana Growing Equipment Damages Home

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Fire Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

The White Lake Fire Department was called to a home on Round Lake Road June 13 at 5 a.m. after a kitchen caught fire.

According to Cpt. Ted Lilley, the homeowner was growing marijuana at the home, legally under Michigan law - though there might have been zoning violations.

Some of the equipment caught fire in the kitchen area of the home. Lilley said there was heavy fire damage in the kitchen, but that was the only area in the home with damage.

The department is looking into any zoning violations, Lilley said.
