Four Horses Die in Highland Township Fire

The incident remains under investigation, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fire early Monday in Highland Township that left four horses dead.

The Highland Township Fire department and Oakland County Sheriff's patrol deputies responded to the blaze at 2:10 a.m. in the 2000 block of Rose Center Road according to an incident report. The fire occurred at Hoffman Farms, owned by Highland Township Commissioner Bob Hoffman, The Oakland Press says.

"Upon arrival there was a large barn fully engulfed and there were two other buildings in immediate danger," according to the incident report. "The residence was evacuated and the animals were released.  A second barn then caught on fire."

The fire remains under investigation, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
