Girl, 10, Goes Missing; Returned Home By Deputies

The following information was supplied by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Highland Substation. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

A 10-year-old Highland girl was reported missing April 22 just after midnight. The girl's mother told Oakland County Sheriff's Deputies that she had gone missing from the family's home on the 2000 block of Honeywell Lake Road, and had never run away before.

According to the report, the deputies searched the area but were unsuccessful in locating the girl. The aviation unit and K-9 were called out to try and find the girl. Both were unsuccessful.

The report states that at 4 a.m. a man called the Sheriff's Highland Substation and said a 10-year-old had knocked on his door asking to call her mother. The man lives in a home two miles from the child's home.

Deputies picked up the girl and returned her to her home. The report states the girl was in good health and unharmed.

The girl told deputies, the report states, that she did not remember leaving the home, and that she didn't know how she ended up where she did.

The mother told deputies, the report states, that the girl is in counseling for some behavior and medical issues - but there is no diagnosis yet and that she's never left home before.
