Girl, 11, Detained Following Joy Ride on M-59

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

An 11-year-old from Waterford was detained in White Lake after being pulled over by White Lake Police on M-59 near Ormond on June 22.

According to the report, an officer near M-59 and Ormond spotted the girl driving a Pontiac G6 on M-59. The car was swerving, the report states, so the officer initiated a traffic stop. The girl did not pull over.

The officer continued to follow the car to the Shell station and back onto M-59. At that time, the girl saw two additional cars coming at her from the opposite direction and pulled over, the report states.

The girl was detained and brought to the station where she was released to her parents. The girl told police that she had taken the car from her grandmother's house in White Lake off Ormond Road. She told police, the report states, that she wanted to take the car to pick up her friends in Waterford.

The case was turned over to probate court review and possible charges. The car was returned to the girl's grandma.

Motor taken from boat

An outboard motor was reported missing from a boat June 30. The owner told police the motor went missing sometime between the early morning hours and noon.

The board was parked at a home on Arlington on Pontiac Lake. There are no suspects at this time.

The motor was estimated to be worth $600. The incident remains under investigation.
