Highland's Jeffrey Pyne Guilty of Second Degree Murder

Following the jury's guilty verdict, Jeffrey Pyne's father Bernie Pyne says his son is innocent.

A jury found 22-year-old Jeffrey Pyne guilty of second degree murder Tuesday after two days of deliberation.

Bernie Pyne, Jeffrey's father, spoke to reporters following the verdict, according to reports from ABC News, and maintained his son's innocence saying Jeffrey could "never" hurt his mother Ruth.

Ruth Pyne was found dead in her Highland Township garage in May 2011 by Jeffrey's younger sister.

According to testimony by the Oakland County Medical Examiner's office, Ruth was bludgeoned to death and stabbed several times.

The Detroit News reported that Jeffrey Pyne shook his head as each of the jurors were polled about their verdict in the Oakland County Circuit court room.

"Before led off in belly chains and handcuffs, Pyne mouthed: "I'm OK" and nodded to his father, Bernard Pyne, seated a few feet away," the Detroit News article stated.

Jeffrey Pyne will be sentenced Jan. 29 at 3 p.m.
