Home Catches Fire After Gas Leak

The following information was supplied by the Oakland County Sheriff's Department, Highland substation. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

The Highland Fire Department and deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff's substation were called to a home on July 17 at 4:50 p.m. following reports of an explosion.

When police and fire arrived, a portion of the home, located on Fisherman's Drive, was on fire.

The homeowners told police they heard a strange whistling sound, and then saw an explosion. A portion of the home then caught fire.

There were no injuries reported.

Police noted that the back of the home sustained fire damage, and that a grill on the back porch was knocked over - a propane tank was nearby.

The incident remains under investigation.

Mailboxes damaged in two incidents

More than six mailboxes were damaged follow a string of reports on July 10, and overnight between July 16 and July 17.

According to the reports filed with the deputies, homeowners reported that their mailboxes had either been pulled from their stakes in the ground, or shattered to pieces on their lawn.

More than four mailboxes were damaged on Strathcona and at least two were damaged on Troon Road and Prestwick Trail.

One homeowner told police he heard is doorbell ring late at night, and found the mailbox damaged the next morning.

The incidents are under investigation.
