Man Accused of Stealing, Leaving Toddler Unattended in Car

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

A 24-year-old Waterford man was arrested at 4:40 p.m. Sunday after loss prevention officers at told police they saw him leaving the store without paying for items.

According the Sgt. Dan Keller, loss prevention officers stopped the man as he exited the store without attempting to pay for two bottles of cologne and a Valentine's Day card. When police arrived, the man said his child was in his car unattended, the report said.

Keller said police found the man's 2-year-old son asleep in a car in the parking lot. He said the man had been in the store for approximately 1½ hours. The temperature that day was 25 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The man and his child were taken to the police station, where the man was processed and released. Keller said the department is seeking a warrant to charge the man with third-degree retail fraud and for leaving a child unattended in a car.

Man flees police

A 23-year-old Waterford resident was arrested early Tuesday after police said he fled from them as they attempted to arrest him on an outstanding warrant issued in White Lake.

Keller said an officer recognized the man's car, parked at a home on the 1300 block of Union Lake Road, and attempted to arrest the man on the warrant. According to the report, the man fled the home through a bathroom window and was found hiding on the porch of a home in Weatherstone subdivision off Union Lake Road approximately a half-mile away.

The man was arrested and arraigned on charges stemming from the White Lake warrant, along with resisting arrest and two warrants out of Canton. Bond for the White Lake charges was set at a total of $7,500.

Hazel Park Police find tools taken from White Lake

A man arrested Friday at a Hazel Park pawn shop has been connected to a larceny-from-auto incident in White Lake.

Keller said a number of tools were taken from a car parked in the driveway of a home on the 8400 block of Cooley Lake Beach sometime between Feb. 2 and Friday, Feb.10.

According to the report, when the man was arrested in Hazel Park police found the tools that were taken from White Lake and notified White Lake Police.

Keller said Hazel Park police were called to the pawn shop Friday to address a disturbance, between the man who was arrested and an employee, that started when the man was attempting to pawn items.

At least one other suspect is being pursued in connection with the arrest at the pawn shop and theft in White Lake, Keller said. The man who was arrested faces charges of receiving/concealing stolen property. The incident remains under investigation.
