Man Arrested On Charges of Driving While Under the Influence of Drugs

A 38-year-old Highland resident was arrested Sunday at 6:40 p.m. after a routine traffic stop by .

Chief Edward Harris said the man's vehicle was stopped by police for an equipment violation.

According to the report, the officer said he noticed the man placing an item into the glove-box as he approached the vehicle. He spoke with the man, the report states, and noted that the man seemed nervous. In addition, the officer reported the smell of burnt marijuana.

The report states the driver consented to a search of the vehicle, and told the officer he had a small amount of marijuana in his pocket. A search of the man revealed two grams of the drug, the report states.

In addition, the police reported that the driver said he had also consumed a beer prior to driving. The driver was given a field sobriety test, and registered a .05 blood alcohol level when given a preliminary breath test. The legal limit is .08.

The man was arrested and brought to the station where he was processed and given a blood test. The man was then released pending the results of the blood test.
