Man Bails After Crashing Car, Caught by White Lake Police

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

White Lake Police arrested a 23-year-old Milford resident Feb. 18 after police say the man crashed his vehicle then ran from police on Jackson Boulevard.

Police Lt. Don Nankervis said police noticed a 1996 blue Pontiac Firebird traveling southbound on Ormond near Jackson Boulevard without lights on. The officer, Nankervis said, followed the vehicle onto Ormond when it picked up speed. The officer then attempted to stop the car.

According to the report, the car began to speed around the curves on Jackson Boulevard. When going around one of the curves, the driver lost control and crashed the car into a ditch and a small tree.

Nankervis said the man was ticketed for operating while under the influence, resisting police and reckless driving.

Copper taken from local businesses

Approximately $1,000 worth of copper equipment was reported stolen from behind the AAA and JCPenney in the Village Lakes Plaza off M-59 sometime between Feb. 15 and Feb. 17.

Nankervis said the copper parts were taken from the irrigation back-flow systems. There are currently no suspects, and the incident remains under investigation.

Man arrested for trespassing

A 28-year-old Pennsylvania resident was arrested on charges of trespassing off White Lake Road near the National Weather Service station around midnight Feb. 20.

Nankervis said it appears the man became disoriented while driving in the area and somehow ended up in a federally restricted area near the National Weather Service station. According to the report, he was driving off the road and while navigating the area in the dark got his 2011 Lincoln rental car stuck in a ditch.

When police arrived on the scene, the man, according to the report, attempted to hide in his vehicle.

The man was arrested on charges of trespassing on federal property and arraigned Monday in 52-2 District Court in Clarkston on the charge. Bond was set at $2,000.
