Man Found Dead in Car; Police Awaiting Toxicology Report

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

A 37-year-old Waterford resident was found dead in his car Wednesday.

According to Lt. Donald Nankervis, the man was visiting friends and was found the next day by those friends in his car, which was still parked in their driveway.

"They said he left late, and they found him in the morning," Nankervis said. "His car was running, and they thought he was asleep, so they turned off the car and left him."

Nankervis said they called police a few hours later after they realized the man was dead.

An autopsy showed no obvious cause of death, Nankervis said.

"We don't suspect foul play, but we are waiting on the toxicology tests before stating the cause of death," he said.

Home and car invasions reported

At least two homes were broken into in the past week, according to police.

The first was discovered Tuesday at a home on Golden Shores.

Nankervis said the homeowner discovered an attempted break-in through a garage window.

"The window had damage consistent with a break-in attempt. Evidence was collected at the scene," Nankervis said.

A second break-in was reported on Thursday on Oxbow Lake Road.

A woman came home to find a man inside a car in her driveway, Nankervis said.

"The man fled from the scene. She called police, and we searched the area," Nankervis said.

A neighbor then called police reporting a strange vehicle in the neighbor's driveway. The driver of the vehicle could not be located, but police are in the process of contacting the owner, a Plymouth resident.

Nankervis said the department has had prior contact with the owner of the abandoned vehicle.

Both incidents remain under investigation.

Woman arrested after accident

A 19-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday after allegedly causing an accident and driving under the influence of alcohol, Nankervis said.

According to the report, the woman was driving southbound on Oxbow Lake near Estola. She narrowly missed colliding with one northbound vehicle, then crashed into a second after losing control of her vehicle, the police report said.

"There were minor injuries as a result of the accident," Nankervis said.

When police arrived on the scene and began their investigation, Nankervis said it became clear the woman had been drinking.

A preliminary breath test was administered at the scene, and she registered a 0.23 blood alcohol content level.

The woman was arrested, taken to the police station and processed.

Woman found wandering street

Police on patrol found a 73-year-old woman wandering down Springdale Drive.

Nankervis said the woman was wearing a nightgown and one shoe.

"Her socks were soaked, and she was sweating," Nankervis said. When asked who she was, the woman knew only her first name and didn't know where she was or where she had come from.

An ambulance was called, and responders discovered the woman was wearing a medical alert bracelet with all of her contact information on it.

The woman was transported to the hospital, where her husband picked her up and took her home. He told police the woman has Alzheimer's disease and had wandered from their home just down the street from where she was found.

Hey Brooke,
Wondering if there was any information available about the car crash/fire last week (I believe 7/27) on Jackson Blvd. The accident was blocking the road so we couldn't get home - wondering if driver was okay. A truck appeared to have hit a tree and caught on fire.

Is there any word on someone shooting at cars on Union Lake Rd. I heard about this, and the person seemed to think it may be near St. Pats. I would like to be sure of that. All incidents occur after dark.

Hi Melissa,
The police didn't have any reported of cars being shot at near St. Pats. If you witness this though, they ask that you call and file a report. Thanks!

It would be helpful to know, if it actually was seismic testing. Following the last episode (byRead More West Bay) it was noted, at the Highland Twp Board meeting by the Sheriff's office, that residents would receive notification prior to any such future events. If so, who received notice and how was this communicated? An announcement in the "Patch" would have been useful.... The Tues. June 25th TOWN HALL 6 - 8pm, by the WRC (Water Resources Commissioner) Jim Nash, will provide an abundance of information on issues re oil/gas drilling and fracking, which EVERYONE needs to know due to impacts on both surface and ground (well) water. Particularly, those who have been approached with an oil/gas lease (ie; near Clyde Rd & Hickory Ridge, re exploration for drilling on the 'soccer field'). People need to know what they are getting into. If it comes to drilling/fracking, seismic testing will be seen as trivial.

After the last round of explosions I contacted Patrick Gibson at West Bay Exploration Company andRead More was told that yes, they have been conducting tests in the area over the last 18 months and "The impact of these charges is barely audible at the surface and would not sound like an explosion on neighboring property. Landowners affected by the survey are contacted through the mail so that they are aware of our timing. I am not sure what your mysterious explosions were, but I am pretty sure they were not the result of our surveys." In the press release provided by Laura Vogel today Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash says Thousands of acres of land in Oakland has been leased to Jordan Exploration. I am again confused. Do both companies have leases in Oakland County? Is it legal for them to detonate dynamite at all hours?

So, Patrick Gibson can check West Bay records then KNOW if their testing occurred on Sat. 6/15/13Read More 9pm, instead of being 'pretty sure'. Guess I'll have to call Pat .... Getting answers to your questions re the companies involved, Gerry, can be mysterious too --- but, likely just a technicality as this industry includes 3 types, to: explore; drill; and extract (and/or frack). So, nailing anyone down to answer questions or get a commitment is elusive at best.
