Man Nearly Drowns, Saved By Good Samaritan

A 20-year-old man nearly drown attempting to swim across a lake on Monday according to .

Lt. Adam Kline said the 20-year-old and two teens were trying to swim from Lakewood Village Beach to Brendel Heights across Brendel Lake.

"They got about halfway across the lake when the man got tired and was unable to swim any further," Kline said.

According to the report, the man's two friends attempted to help him, but the man began to struggle.

A 43-year-old man on the Brendel Heights side of the lake saw the 20-year-old struggling and rowed a canoe out to where he was.

"He pulled the man to shore while another onlooker called 9-1-1," Kline said.

The two teens made it to the Brendel Heights side of the lake unscathed and the 20-year-old was taken to Huron Valley Hospital for evaluation.

Elementary schools broken into

Three White Lake elementary schools have been broken into in the last week, according to police. Police believe two of the incidents are related.

Kline said the maintenance sheds at both and were broken into.

"The locks were cut off the sheds and several items were taken," Kline said.

Those items include snow blowers, garden equipment, gas cans and leaf blowers.

He said more than $6,000 worth of items was taken for the Oxbow Elementary shed alone, sometime between Friday and Sunday.

Police have no suspects at this time, but said the incidents appear to be related. They remain under investigation.

Kline said an unknown person broke a window into a classroom.

It's not known if someone actually entered the building. The alarm at the school was not triggered, and school officials are in the process of determining if anything was taken from the building.
