Man Pulled Over for Drunken Driving With Girl, 13, In Car

The following information was supplied by White Lake Township Police. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

A 33-year-old man from Ortonville was pulled over Nov. 11 at 3 a.m. driving a car that was reported stolen near Pontiac Lake Road and M-59, White Lake Police officials said.

According to the report, while officers had the man pulled over they noticed a heavy smell of intoxicants. The man was given field sobriety tests and failed, the report states.

A preliminary breath test was given, and the man registered at .15 blood alcohol level. The legal limit is .08. The man was arrested at the scene, and had a 13-year-old girl in the car with him. She was returned to her home by police.

The man, Scott Hawkins, was arraigned Nov. 11 on charges of operating a vehicle while under the influence with an occupant less than 16, a 1 year misdemeanor, and driving with a suspended license. His bond was set at $5,000 cash.

Lt. Don Nankervis said the department is working with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office to investigate how Hawkins got possession of the car that was reportedly stolen.
