West Bloomfield Man Shot in Highland

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies and White Lake police responded to the incident in Highland on May 13.

Deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Highland Substation were called to a home on the 3000 block of Lester in Highland for a reported shooting.

According to the report, a man called dispatch and said that shots were fired at the home. The man told deputies that he had left the address before the shots were fired, but returned to find that his friend had been shot in the leg.

When police arrived, the homeowner told police that the shots had been fired outside the home in the street.

White Lake police were called in to assist at the scene.

The man who was shot, a 21-year-old from West Bloomfield, told police that he and his friend were at the home for a party.

According to the report, the men were met in the street by two other men who were demanding money. One of the men shot the 21-year-old in the leg and drove away in a red minivan.

Deputies found a single shell casing at the scene. A K-9 unit was called in to track, but couldn't establish a scent.

Deputies said in the report that the man who was shot is not cooperating with police at this time, but the incident remains under investigation.
