Motorcylist Arrested for Drunken Driving After Falling Off Bike

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

A Waterford resident was arrested March 15 after several witnesses called police to report an erratic motorcycle traveling throughout the township. The man was arraigned March 17 and formally charged with operating while under the influence, third offense, and driving with a suspended license, second offense.

According to the , 47-year-old Ivan Curtis Martin was seen driving down Elizabeth Lake Road and Teggerdine when, according to a witness he fell off his motorcycle. Police were dispatched to the scene. When they arrived the motorcycle was gone, and several more calls were coming in to report an erratic motorcycle driving down M-59, and then Ormond Road.

Lt. Don Nankervis said on caller told police the bike was traveling at 80 mph and weaving between cars.

A witness followed the motorcyclist to the where the bike stopped. Police responded and talked to the driver.

According to the report, the officer on the scene noticed the smell of intoxicants and asked Martin to take field sobriety test. Martin failed the test, and registered a .13 blood alcohol level during his preliminary breath test. The legal limit is .08. Martin was arrested and lodged in Oakland County Jail.

He was arraigned on March 17 and bond was set at $50,000 cash, no 10 percent. He appeared in 52-2 District Court in Clarkston for a preliminary examination on March 23. Bond was posted and Martin is due back in court on April 26.
