Names Released of Victims from Thursday Night Accident

One man remains in stable condition at area hospital.

The driver who struck and killed a man walking along Williams Lake Road Thursday night is not expected to face charges, though the crash is still under investiation, according to police.

Jeffrey Vanlanduyt, Sr., 41, of Commerce Township man was killed when he was struck by the vehicle as he was walking with another man, from Independence. That man, Tracy Gougeon, 49, remains in stable condition at POH Medical Center in Pontiac.

The pair was walking southbound along Williams Lake Road at approximately 8:49 p.m. Thursday when  the 41-year-old man driving a 1999 Chevy van crashed into the two men.

"It appears their vehicle broke down, or ran out of gas near Hess Hathaway Park," Lt. Adam Kline with the White Lake Police Department said. "They were walking in the roadway when they were struck by the van. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor at this time."

The driver's name has not yet been released because the case is under investigation.

The stretch of Williams Lake Road near Cooley Lake Road was closed until 11 p.m. Thursday while police and fire from White Lake and Waterford investigated the scene.
