Neighborhood Vandalized Overnight; Fight Breaks Out at Area Bar

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

At least 12 homes near Lake Grove Drive off Ormond Road reported instances of vandalism Monday.

White Lake Police Lt. Adam Kline said police are in the process of gathering information, but several mailboxes and vehicles were tagged with spray paint.

"We also have a report on Broken Oak of vandalism, just north of the Lake Grove area," he said.

Man arrested outside White Lake Inn

A 25-year-old Highland resident was taken into custody after police found him punching a car at the on Sunday.

According to Kline, the man said he was jumped by two men at the bar.

Police said when they arrived, the man was punching the windshield of a female patron at the bar.

"He had cuts and some swelling," Kline said. The two men who allegedly jumped the 25-year-old were not found.

The 25-year-old was arrested for malicious destruction of property, cited and then released after posting a $100 bond.

Alcohol was a factor in both incidents, Kline said.

Distracted driver hits tree

A 36-year-old man escaped his vehicle unscathed after it hit a tree and caught fire July 27 on Jackson Boulevard.

According to the report, the man told police he reached to the rear of his truck to move an item but turned the steering wheel as he reached back.

"He lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and struck a tree," Kline said.

The truck quickly caught fire and became engulfed in flames, the report states.

The man and his 4-year-old passenger safely exited the vehicle and did not suffer any injuries, Kline said.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The man was cited for careless driving.
