Oakland County Sheriff's Office Introduces New Mobile App

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office recently launched a smartphone app that gives residents access to real-time inmate information, crime alerts and more.

The free app, which is available for iPhone and Android, can be found by searching for "MobilePatrol." After downloading, select the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

The app offers real-time inmate information and is fully integrated with VINE® (Victim Information and Notification Everyday), which allows crime victims to be notified about the custody status of their offender, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office.

It also includes warrants, most-wanted criminals, news, the facility location and the Sheriff’s Office directory.

“The most beneficial and significant feature of this app is that it lets us get important information right to people’s fingertips,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in the press release. “We have been working for some time to integrate our information into this app for easy access. The app greatly improves our ability to connect with the public. We are excited to roll this out and encourage people to get the app.”

Information that can be pushed right to a user’s smartphone includes Amber Alerts (including photos of missing persons), crime alerts, weather warnings and other local emergencies, the release states.

“We know that more and more people are getting the information they need from their smartphones,” Bouchard said. “We want to make sure we’re using the latest communication technology to keep the public informed, and this app helps us do that.”

According to the sheriff's office, Oakland County is the largest and one of only four counties in Michigan using the MobilePatrol application, which is provided by technology company Appriss.
