Police Blotter: Attempted Vehicle Theft, Larceny and Retail Fraud

are investigating an attempted vehicle theft that occurred over the weekend.

According to Police Chief Edward Harris someone attempted to break into a vehicle parked at and steal it.

The incident happened sometime between 1 p.m. on Feb. 13, and 8 a.m. Feb. 14. The vehicle, a 2004 GMC van, was parked in the lot overnight. The driver's side window was shattered and the steering column was broke.

Larceny of metal

A man was arrested in Waterford for allegedly stealing approximately $100 worth of scrap metal after a snow plow contractor witnessed the incident at on Feb. 13.

"The driver witnessed the man taking scrap metal from a dumpster and placing in the back of his red Ford pick-up," Harris said. "He didn't have a cell phone, so he drove to the station and reported the incident. We put out a call with a description of the vehicle and the man was stopped in Waterford by Waterford Police."

According to reports, he was detained and brought to White Lake by White Lake police where he was cited and released. During the investigation it was discovered, Harris said, that the man had attempted to steal metal from Royal Oak Recycling on Feb. 10 and was caught in the process by an employee. The man was cited for both incidents.

Retail fraud

A 45-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly switching price tags on items at .

According to Harris, the woman was witnessed over two days, Feb. 12 and Feb. 14, switching price tags on items – making the items cheaper – and then paying for the items using the lower price tags.

"Loss prevention brought her in," Harris said. "We arrested her, cited her for retail fraud and she was released."
