Police Blotter: Breaking and Entering, Retail Fraud and Larceny

White Lake Police seek information after a homeowner scares off an intruder.

White Lake Police were called to a house on the 9000 block of Mandon at 11 p.m. Friday after the homeowner interrupted a suspected breaking and entering.

"The homeowner witnessed a person entering their home through the lower level back door," Chief Edward Harris said. "When the person entered, the homeowner screamed and scared the person off."

A tracking dog was called to the scene and followed the tracks outside the home for about one mile to another street. "The officer with the K-9 said it's likely a car was waiting there to pick up the person," Harris said.

Fingerprints were lifted from the scene, and the incident remains under investigation. Because it was dark, the homeowner was not able to get a good look at the person.

"All we know is they were approximately 5-feet-7 with a medium build and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt," Harris said.

Retail fraud

A 20-year-old man from Kalamazoo was arrested Saturday after being caught taking liquor from without paying.

"The man was observed placing three bottles of Bacardi, valued at $40, in his coat pockets," Harris said. "When employees called police, the man fled out the front doors on foot towards Glenn Road."

When police arrived, they located the man near Glenn Road and Teggerdine Trail.

"Our officer ordered the man to halt," Harris said. "When the officer got close, the man tried to hand him one of the three liquor bottles. The officer grabbed the man's wrist, and the man tried to break free and run. He was tackled by the officer and placed under arrest."

The man was taken into custody and cited for the retail fraud and for resisting arrest. He was released on a $100 personal bond.

Larceny

A snowmobile trailer was taken from a house on the 2000 block of Ridge Road sometime between 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.

"The trailer contained two snowmobiles and several tires," Harris said.

The trailer was a Snow Rebel snowmobile model, and the missing snowmobiles are 1999 Arctic Cat Panthers.

There are no suspects at this time, and the incident remains under investigation.
