Police Blotter: Retail Frauds, Reckless Driving and a Stolen Check

The following arrest information was supplied by the White Lake Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

White Lake police are investigating the cashing of a stolen check in White Lake.

Police Chief Edward Harris said a woman in her 20s brought the stolen check to the dollar store in White Lake and cashed it for $667 sometime between May 19 and May 23.

The incident remains under investigation.

Items taken from area stores

A 22-year-old woman from Hartland was arrested and issued a citation for retail fraud after allegedly taking items from on Sunday.

Harris said store employees said they viewed the woman taking jewelery, pants and a hairband and concealing them in her purse.

She then left the store without attempting to pay, according to the police report.

The woman was detained by store employees and arrested when police arrived. She was issued a citation for retail fraud and released on a $100 bond with a court date.

On Friday, a 44-year-old Highland resident was arrested for retail fraud after police caught him with stolen goods.

Harris said the department received an anonymous call letting them know a man was taking items from . The caller gave the man's name and a description of his vehicle.

When police arrived at the store, they viewed the man entering his vehicle. They initiated a traffic stop. During the stop, police noticed the man was wearing two pairs of plaid shorts under a pair of sweat pants, Harris said.

Harris said police questioned the man and he admitted to taking the shorts from the store and not paying.

He was arrested, issued a citation for retail fraud and then released on bond.

Reckless driving

A 17-year-old Waterford resident was arrested Sunday after crashing his vehicle on Fisk Road near Pontiac Lake.

Harris said the teen was stopped at a stop sign then accelerated quickly and lost control.

"He lost control and went into oncoming traffic," Harris said. "He was able to accelerate again and avoid the oncoming traffic, but crashed into the ditch."

Harris said the teen told police he was trying to impress his friends who were in the car with him.

The teen was arrested and issued a citation for reckless driving. He was released after posing bond.
