Police Blotter: Text Messages, Heroin Possession and Check Fraud

A roundup of police calls from April 11 through April 15.

An 18-year-old student is expected to be cited by police after sending threatening and harassing text messages to another student, 17, during school hours on Wednesday.

Police Chief Edward Harris said the 17-year-old victim and her father sought out the school liaison officer after the girl received a number of texts that were both profane and threatening in nature.

"They indicated they wanted to pursue criminal charges," Harris said. "I anticipate the girl will be cited under township ordinance, when the investigation comes to a close, for sending threatening text message."

"The driver told the officer that he hadn't had anything to drink and was just tired," Harris said. "The officer asked if the driver would consent to a search of the vehicle and the driver said yes."

The officer then asked the driver if he had anything on him, Harris said.

"The man told the officer he had heroin and needles on him," he said. "The officer removed the drugs and needles, and placed the man under arrest."

A field test done on the drug came back positive for heroin. The man was taken to the station, processed and released pending results from the lab, Harris said.

"We are required to send the drugs in to ensure that they are in fact what we suspect they are," Harris said. "It's likely, after we get the results, that the case will be presented to the prosecutor for charges."

Check fruad at Walmart

A 26-year-old man from Flint was arrested at after attempting to cash a fraudulent check on Tuesday.

That man, Julian A. Crumper, was arraigned and charged with one count of uttering and publishing, according to Harris.

"Crumper walked to the customer service counter on Tuesday and attempted to cash a fake U.S. Treasury tax refund check," Harris said. "We believe a group of people have been doing this all over. This Walmart was on high alert because people have attempted this at other locations."

Walmart security was notified, and able to detain Crumper and the group of people he was with. They were all interviewed by police, but only Crumper was charged.
