Man arrested for drunken driving, third offense

A 69-year-old man was arrested by White Lake Police on Monday at 8:30 p.m. on Teggerdine after witnesses called in a suspected drunken driver.

Harris said police were dispatched to the area to look for a suspected drunken driver. A vehicle fitting the description was viewed driving on the shoulder and going 10 miles per hour on Pontiac Lake Road.

According to the report, the officer attempted to pull the car over, but the driver continued to slowly drive along the road.

The officer then flashed a light into the man's mirror and the car slowly stopped. As the officer approached the car, the car began to move forward slowly. The officer ordered the car to stop, and told the driver to put the vehicle in park and turn off the ignition, Harris said.

Once the driver complied, the officer began to question him.

Harris said the officer noticed a strong smell of intoxicant. According to the report, when the driver was asked if he had been drinking, he told the officer he had had about half a pint of Southern Comfort.

When asked for his license, Harris said the man was unable to get it out of his wallet. The officer eventally removed it for him, and asked the man to perform a few field sobriety test.

Harris said the man failed the tests, and registered a .16 BAC when given a PBT.

The man was taken to the station to sober up, issued a ticket for drunken driving third offense, then released pending issuance of a warrant.
