Police Blotter: Woman Crashes Car, Gets Arrested on Assault Charge

A 20-year-old Commerce Township resident was arrested following an accident June 17, after she allegedly assaulted the driver of the other vehicle involved, according to .
Lt. Don Nankervis said police responded to the accident on Oxbow Lake Road and found a road crew breaking up an altercation between the 20-year-old and the other driver, a 41-year-old White Lake resident.
According to the report, the incident began when the 41-year-old was traveling down Elizabeth Lake Road. The woman told police the 20-year-old was tailgating her vehicle, honking her horn and yelling obscenities as the two cars traveled down Elizabeth Lake Road. A witness at the scene corroborated the 41-year-old's story, the report said.

The 41-year-old turned onto Oxbow Lake Road and had to stop because a road crew was halting traffic while painting lines on the road, the report said. While stopped, the 20-year-old crashed her car into the back of the 41-year-old's car, Nankervis said.
"After they crashed, both women exited their vehicles, and a verbal altercation began," Nankervis said.

The 20-year-old then assaulted the 41-year-old and ripped a necklace from the woman's neck, according to the report. Nankervis said the road crew broke up the altercation and separated the women until police arrived.
When police arrived, the 20-year-old gave a statement telling police she was upset because she was two months pregnant and that the woman driving the other car had cut her off in the parking lot.
The 20-year-old told police she decided to followed the car, and when the car failed to signal a turn, she crashed into it. Witnesses told police both cars were stopped before the car the 20-year-old was driving accelerated into the back of the car in front of her, the report said.
The 41-year-old did not suffer any serious injuries. The 20-year-old was arrested on the scene, taken to the station and released on bond after being issued a ticket for reckless driving and a ticket for assault. Both are 93-day misdemeanors.
Police seek help in identifying hit-run car
Police are looking for help to identify the car that hit a 16-year-old girl as she rode her bike Monday along Ormond Road.
The girl suffered injuries to her legs and fractured a wrist. The car did not stop.
Police are looking for a 2004 white Chrysler Sebring or a 2004 white Dodge Stratus. The vehicle is missing its passenger side mirror.
Nankervis said it's likely the car is either a four-door or convertible.
