Police: Man Found Dead in Waterford After Stealing Vehicle From White Lake

A 39-year-old Waterford resident died days after White Lake police said he took a vehicle from an impound lot in White Lake. The man, according to Waterford police, died of a drug overdose.

According to the report, the man was initially wanted in White Lake for retail fraud after a loss prevention officer at Kohl's watched the man exit the store with merchandise, without paying, and enter into a silver Volkswagen Dec. 24.

The Volkswagen was traced to a house in Waterford and a friend staying at the man's home gave police his name. Police found the items from Kohl's still in the vehicle, which was parked at the home. The vehicle was impounded and stored at Lakeside Towing in White Lake.

Police were in the process of trying to make contact with the man when the car was reported stolen by the towing company sometime between Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.

On Jan. 7, Waterford Police alerted White Lake Police that the man they were trying to locate was found dead in Waterford of an apparent drug overdose. The car was recovered in Pontiac.
