Powerful Storms Take Down Trees, Power Lines in White Lake and Highland

As of 10:30 a.m. Saturday, more than 8,000 people were without power in the White Lake-Highland area. Power is expected to be restored sometime Saturday or Sunday.

Thousands of residents are waking up Saturday without power, cable and internet in White Lake and Highland.

Late Friday, powerful storms with wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour rolled through the area knocking down trees and power lines.

On of the hardest hit areas in White Lake was near Bogie Lake Road and Cooley Lake Road.  There, a large tree fell through a home.

"When the home was struck, one of the occupants was reportedly knocked out for a short time as the ceiling inside the home crashed down on top of her," Cpt. Ted Lilley with the White Lake Fire Department said.

That woman was treated on the scene by fire department personnel, but did not want to transported for medical treatment, Lilley said.

Overall, the White Lake Fire Department responded to 35 storm related incidents Friday, according to Lilley. The woman in the house with the fallen tree was the only reported injury.

DTE Energy's Outage Map shows more than 8,000 people throughout White Lake and Highland without power. Restorations estimates for most of the outages are late Saturday, while others in small areas are late Sunday or Monday.
