Reader Asks About 'Shortcut' between Meijer, McDonald's

This path may cost you time and money if police catch you using it without permission.

There's a dirt roadway/path between McDonald's and the drive. Is it illegal to take that shortcut?

Sue Paules

Chief Edward Harris: Ms. Paules, one can be issued a violation for using this property as a cut-through to Meijer Drive. The most appropriate violation would be the civil offense of “driving through private property to avoid a traffic signal.”  However, one could be issued a misdemeanor citation for trespassing if the property owner were to complain or post the property.
