Resident Asks About Duck Hunting on White Lake

Is duck hunting allowed on White Lake, or any other lake in the township? See what White Lake Police Chief Ed Harris has to say.

Is duck hunting on White Lake allowed. I am concerned that hunters are near the islands on the lake, shooting towards my house.

-Charlene Graham

Chief Ed Harris: Ms. Graham, hunting is prohibited in the White Lake Township portion of White Lake. This does not apply to the portion of White Lake that is in Highland Township. For those hunters on the Highland Township portion of White Lake, state law prohibits the discharge of firearms within 150 yards of a home or building.

If there is a concern that hunters are on the White Lake Township portion of the lake, or too close to a home in White Lake Township, please do not hesitate to contact us

Thank You,

Edward Harris

Chief of Police

What about duck or goose hutnting on Grass Lake? I have the same fear - that one day one of those bullets is going to go through my bedroom window.

Actually, chief, you can shoot or discharge a weapon (which also includes a non-firearm; ie. bow and arrow) as long as you have PERMISSION from the OWNER of the OCCUPPIED DWELLING in question... Nancy and Charlene...I suggest you call the DNR about hunting questions so you can be properly informed. Or, the next time your at Meijer shopping, go to the hunting counter and get a DNR publish hunting guide with the rules and regulations...you will be MUCH better informed.
