Save the Date for White Lake Fire Department Open House

Meet firefighters during the free, family-friendly event Oct. 13.

Remember to mark your calendars and prepare to have fun at the White Lake Fire Department’s annual Open House, Sunday, October 13, 2013 from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM, located at the main fire station, 7420 Highland Road at Porter Road.

This year’s Open House follows several fire safety assemblies where young students in grades kindergarten through 3rd grade learned basic fire safety principles including “stop, drop and roll”.  Also, children learned the importance of an emergency plan that included a predetermined safe place outside of the house, when a fire (smoke) alarm goes off at home.

School visits and open house events are also opportunities to reduce the fear factor some children experience during emergencies. Interacting with firefighters in full gear, builds a trust factor where children are less likely to hide from a firefighter during an emergency. This can save their life.
