Stolen Vehicle Recovered After Short Police Chase

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

A vehicle was taken from a residence on the 100 block of Serra in White Lake on Saturday evening after the owner left the car unlocked in the driveway with the keys in the ignition, the owner told .

Chief Edward Harris said the report stated that the owner saw the suspect pull out of their driveway in the pickup and head toward Pontiac Lake Road.

According to the report, police observed the vehicle traveling on Pontiac Lake Road near Teggerdine.

Harris said the officer attempted to stop the vehicle and became engaged in a high-speed chase.

"Speeds got too high for our comfort level, and we terminated the pursuit," Harris said.

At 2:30 a.m. Sunday, police found the vehicle in the parking lot of an apartment complex in White Lake. According to the report, police recovered the vehicle but could not locate the suspect.

Harris said the department has a suspect, and the incident remains under investigation.

Money taken from business

An unspecified amount of money was taken from a safe and cash register at the Oil Exchange at the corner of M-59 and Pontiac Lake Road sometime between 7:30 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Friday.

Harris said it appears that an unknown person broke a window on the side of the building to gain access to the safe and register.

"We collected a lot of evidence and have a possible suspect," Harris said.

The incident remains under investigation.

Items taken from cars

Harris said several cars near Sharon and Elizabeth Lake Roads were broken into in the early morning hours of Dec. 19.

According to the report, several items were taken from unlocked cars, including a number of cellphones.

"We'd like to remind people, again, to lock their cars. Especially now, during the holiday, when you may have presents and other expensive items in your vehicle," Harris said.
