White Lake Man Likely Died While Digging Tractor from Snow

At least eight Michigan residents have died as a result of the heavy snowfall delivered by Winter Storm Hercules and a polar vortex that plunged wind chill values to 35 degrees below zero.

A 72-year-old White Lake Township man whose body was discovered in near a snow shovel in his back yard Tuesday may have died as a result of this week’s heavy snowfall and bitterly cold conditions, authorities said

White Lake Township Police Lt. Adam Kline said Alton Barrett’s daughter found his body, the Detroit Free Press reports. She reportedly had not seen her father since Sunday and went to his home to check on him.

The victim was dressed in winter clothing and it appears he was trying to dig a tractor out of a snow bank when he died, the newspaper said. An autopsy is planned.
