White Lake Police To Offer Prescription Drug Drop-Off Year Round

The new prescription drug drop-off location will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The White Lake Police Department will be hosting a ribbon cutting event Tuesday, June 18, at 3 p.m. to kick-off the new, year round, prescription drug drop-off program at the department.

According to a release from White Lake Police, Chief Ed Harris, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard and local officials will be on hand Tuesday to reveal the new drop-off location. This location is part of the county's Operation Medicine Cabinet.

With this new location, anyone in, or near, the White Lake area can drop off their outdated or unused prescription drugs. The collection site will be open at the White Lake Police Department 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"This program will be put into effect to allow citizens to turn in unused legal prescription drugs for the purpose of disposal," the release states. "This is based on the belief that the number of individuals abusing prescription drugs recreationally is increasing at an alarming rate. Also the environmental health implications of improper disposal of prescription drugs by private citizens via flushing negatively impact our water systems. By joining this program it ensures disposal with the least impact on the environment and also creates a mode through which citizens can get prescription drugs out of their medicine cabinets and out of the hands of teens and other unauthorized users."
