White Lake Receives 26 Fireworks Complaints in July

A township ordinance restricts use of fireworks in White Lake, and could result in fines if violated.

Since the start of July, the White Lake Township Police Department has received at least 26 fireworks complaints between July 1 and July 9.

Lt. Adam Kline said White Lake has an ordinance in place to restrict firework usage. This ordinance went into effect May 8 of this year.

According to ordinance 136, residents can only set off consumer fireworks on the day before, day of and day after a national holiday. There is no restriction on the time of day fireworks can be used.

The approved holidays are:

  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • Washington's Birthday
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Columbus Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day
Anyone in violation of this township ordinance will receive a municipal civil infraction, Kline said.

The fines associated with the infractions are as follows:
  • $75 for the first infraction
  • $150 for a second infraction
  • $500 for a third infraction
