White Lake Township Hires New Fire Chief

Andrew Burka comes to the White Lake Township Fire Department after 28 years in Dearborn Heights.

Andrew Burka has been named White Lake Township’s new fire chief.

He was selected Jan. 24 after extensive interviews and testing, the Spinal Column reports.

Burka served as a firefighter for Dearborn Heights for 28 years and was fire chief for the last eight years. He also served as fire marshal for the Dearborn Heights Fire Department and as a fire inspector.

He began his duties earlier this month with the White Lake Township Fire Department, which provides around-the-clock coverage for the 37-square-mile township.

The fire department was founded in 1948 as an all-volunteer department, but has evolved over time to include professional firefighters as well. There are currently 16 full-time/career firefighters, including the new chief, and 30 paid on-call firefighters.
