Andrew Burka has been named White Lake Township’s new fire chief.
He was selected Jan. 24 after extensive interviews and testing, the Spinal Column reports.
Burka served as a firefighter for Dearborn Heights for 28 years and was fire chief for the last eight years. He also served as fire marshal for the Dearborn Heights Fire Department and as a fire inspector.
He began his duties earlier this month with the White Lake Township Fire Department, which provides around-the-clock coverage for the 37-square-mile township. The fire department was founded in 1948 as an all-volunteer department, but has evolved over time to include professional firefighters as well. There are currently 16 full-time/career firefighters, including the new chief, and 30 paid on-call firefighters.
