Why Did You Make the Switch to the Digital Radio System?

One resident asks White Lake Police Chief Edward Harris about the department's radio system.

I have a question. Did the county of Oakland force your department into moving to the new digital MA-COM radio system? Why would you not want to go to the more reliable Michigan state APCO Project 25 system that everyone other than Oakland County uses?

Ray Engel

Chief Edward Harris: Mr. Engel, we were not forced to participate in the Oakland County radio system but did so willingly and for obvious financial reasons. As a participant in the County radio system we were included in the grant that funded the system. We received the base stations in our dispatch center as well as radios for each vehicle in our fleet and portable radios for each officer. Equipment such as shoulder microphones and other related items were also provided. All at no cost to us.
