Woman Arraigned After Police Say She Made False Report of Attempted Armed Robbery

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

Cassandra Nims, 17, was arraigned Tuesday on one count of filing a false police report—a felony. If convicted, she faces up to 4 years in prison.

According to a report filed with the White Lake Police Department, Nims called police on Aug. 30 to report an attempted armed robbery.

Lt. Don Nankervis said Nims told police a 17-year-old male, who lived down the street, came to her door and attempted to rob her at gunpoint. She gave police a description of the teen, and he was apprehended soon after by police.

"After some questioning her story began to unravel," Nankervis said. "Detective Mike Simsack worked hard on this case and was able to collect evidence and clear the male teen of the charges."

Nankervis said it's important for residents to understand how serious the situation was. "We had emergency responders on the scene and officers looking for an armed teen. Things could have gone very wrong and someone could have been hurt."

Nims was released Tuesday on a $5,000 personal bond and will appear in court again on Monday.

Historic properties vandalized

There have been two incidents of vandalism at Haven Hill in Highland Recreation Area in the past month, according to police.

The most recent incident occurred sometime between Thursday and Sunday, when a portion of the fence around the Edsel Ford sheep barn was destroyed. In a separate incident, one of the buildings was tagged with spray paint. Details weren't available on the second incident, Nankervis said.

Anyone with information is asked to call White Lake police at 248-698-4400.
