Woman Warned After Leaving Child In Car at Local Retailer

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

Police were called to the White Lake at 10 a.m. on Friday morning after someone reported a child left in a car in a the parking lot.

Chief Edward Harris said police arrived on the scene and found a 3-year-old strapped into a child seat in the back of the car.

The child's grandmother, who was taking care him, was located inside the store.

"The child was in good health aside from the cold temperatures," Harris said. "We spoke with the grandmother who told us she had just run in the store quickly to drop off her computer to be repaired."

Harris said officers explained to the woman she could not leave the child in the car unattended, no matter the circumstance. She was given a verbal warning and sent on her way.

Stolen I.D

A 61-year-old White Lake resident reported that her credit card information was stolen sometime between Sept. 23 and Oct. 9.

Harris said the woman received a statement in the mail for a credit card she hasn't used since June. There were six charges from six different stores in White Lake, Waterford and Pontiac.

"When she noticed the charges, and knew she hadn't used the card, she called us," Harris said.

Harris said police are working with the store to gather more information, including surveillance tapes.

The incident remains under investigation.
