Woman With Young Child Arrested for Retail Fraud in White Lake

The following information was supplied by White Lake Township Police. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

A 30-year-old woman from Grass Lake was arrested Nov. 28 on charges of retail fraud after police say she was caught taking items from Kohl's in White Lake.

According to the report, the woman was at the store shopping with her child and a friend.

Loss prevention officers told White Lake Police they saw the woman take a number of clothing items and jewelry, and conceal them in her cart. She then attempted to leave the store without paying for the concealed items, the report states.

The report states the woman had more than $1,400 in unpaid items from the store.

The woman, Mary Tompkins, was arraigned on one count of felony first degree retail fraud. Her bond was set at $2,500.

The woman's child was released on the scene to the custody of the friend, while she processed and held at the station.
