Cooley Lake Road Paving Project to Start in 2012

Informational session to be held by the Road Commission for Oakland County on Sept. 15 about the paving project which borders four communities including White Lake.

A significant gravel portion of Cooley Lake Road that borders White Lake Township and three neighboring communities will be paved by the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) as part of a $4.4 million project in 2012.

The RCOC will conduct an informational meeting Sept. 15, from 4-7 p.m. at Oak Valley Middle School, 4200 White Oak Trail in Commerce Township, to discuss the project. The affected area will include a gravel section of Cooley Lake Road from just east of Duck Lake Road to Mystic Valley and Majestic Oaks streets on the Milford Township/Highland Township and White Lake Township/Commerce Township borders.

The project is expected to begin in the spring of 2012 and be completed by the fall of 2012. It will involve asphalt paving of the road. Concrete curbs and gutters and storm sewers will be constructed where needed to provide proper drainage.

The paving of this section of Cooley Lake Road has been a high priority road project for the county and township.

“We factor in a variety of data, such as traffic volume, crash history, connectivity, whether or not the road segment is part of a route that is largely already paved or not, how much resources the RCOC devotes to maintaining the gravel road and more,” RCOC Spokesman Craig Bryson said.

Former Supervisor, and current state Sen. Mike Kowall said he made this project a priority after receiving numerous requests by residents to have it paved, and voiced his excitement for the project during the recent .

This section of Cooley Lake Road will be closed to through traffic during the construction project. Access will be provided to traffic going to homes or businesses within the project area at all times.
