Large Crowd Expected for Tuesday's Township Board Meeting

Board packs the agenda in hopes of resolving issues before year's end.

The White Lake Township meeting is expected to be packed Tuesday with residents interested to know who might fill the seat of Supervisor Mike Kowall.

Also on the agenda is a resolution to extend a moratorium on the manufacturing of medical marijuana in town while the township tries to draft an ordinance to regulate, or ban, dispensaries in the area.

Kowall, who was elected to the state senate in November, is expected to resign at the meeting, the township's last of the year. 

The 7 p.m. meeting is at the , 7525 Highland Rd.

There are currently interested in Kowal's position: Mike Powell and Greg Baroni. Both have given notice to the board and will be considered for the position.

Kowall is expected to make a recommendation on who he would like to see take the township reins, but he can't vote. The board will have days from Kowall's resignation to make the appointment.

If the supervisor appointment is either Powell or Baroni, that will open up a seat on the board. Several residents have expressed an interest to the board, and township for the anticipate vacancy on the board of trustees.

Those residents include: Allen Linson, Mike Long, Andrea Vooheis, Gail Novak Phelps, and William Pierson.

Other items of note on the agenda for Tuesday's meeting include the following:

  • Police department promotions.
  • Parks and Recreation capital projects for 2011.
  • Appointments to the planning and zoning boards and the board of review.
  • Patrol vehicle purchase.
  • Garbage contract.
  • New truck purchase.
