Local Senator Receives Excellence in Education Award

Michigan State Senator Mike Kowall, R-White Lake, serving the 15th Senate District, received the “Excellence in Education” award from AT&T and the Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL) at the 12th annual AT&T/MACUL Student Technology Showcase on Nov. 28 at the State Capitol Building in Lansing. On hand for the presentation were Rev. Dr. Richard Zeile, member of the Michigan State Board of Education; Bruce Umpstead, director of technology, Michigan Department of Education; Steve Schiller, MACUL board president; and Greg Clark, AT&T director of external affairs. The annual award is given to legislators who have proven their dedication to improving the Michigan educational system. Some 125 students from nearly 35 schools throughout Michigan participated in the Showcase and set up demonstrations to show legislators how they are using technology to enhance learning.
