Prior to coming up with a process to fill the vacancy, trustee Todd Birkle made a motion to appoint Rick Kowall to the seat. The motion was supported by Trustee Mike Powell and Treasurer Jay Brendel, but voted down in a 3-3 tie by Clerk Terry Lilley, Baroni and Trustee Carol Burkard.

"I think it's ridiculous to expect a vote tonight when we've just received the list of candidates," Lilley said. "I don't think it's fair to vote without hearing from some of the candidates and conducting interviews."

In other news, the board approved a permit for goose roundup and nest destruction activities on Lake Neva at the request of Lakewood Village. The roundup and next destruction will be conducted by trained individuals. The permit lasts 5 years.

The garbage contract with Allied Waste finally received the approval to be signed from the board and replacement items for the water department were approved.

The board is expected to meet again on Feb. 24 to interview, and possible vote in, a trustee.
