Rep. Kowall Introduces Legislation to Create Political Do-Not-Call List
Tired of the political robo-calls during election season? Local State Rep. Eileen Kowall (R-White Lake) has introduced a bill that will allow residents to opt out of receiving those calls.

This week, state Rep. Eileen Kowall introduced legislation to create a political do-not-call list that residents could sign up for.
House Bill 5882 would create a do-not-call list that would be published quarterly, prohibiting political solicitors from utilizing automated messages to call someone on the list to promote a campaign, candidate or political issue.

"Michigan voters should have a right to opt out of political robocalls if they are not interested in them, and my legislation would give them that option," said Kowall, R-White Lake Township. "Bombarding people with phone calls they do not want to receive only makes them less likely to vote, which is not helpful to our democratic process."
The bill also allows the public service commission to utilize the national do-not-call list already in existence to develop the database.

HB 5882 has been referred to the House Committee on Redistricting and Elections.
