"We have 14,616 registered voters in Highland, " McDonell said. "I think the turnout may be slightly higher than other local primaries because of the number of candidates and the police millage on the ballot."

"If I had to guess, I think we will have 24-25 percent voter turnout by the time the polls close," Amburgy said.

To date, 2,338 absentee ballots have been issued in the township.

"Based on the numbers, I expect this August primary will be very similar to previous primaries in terms of turnout," Amburgy said.

The one difference could be the time it takes to tally votes. Because of a strong write-in campaign by for the 11th Congressional seat - it will take local precincts longer to tally votes.

Amburgy said all ballots with write-ins have to be separated, verified for validity and hand counted. The potential for a large number of write-ins could mean local results will be delayed by an hour or more.
