White Lake Township Board to Handle Several Issues Tuesday

The board is expected to pass resolutions on the cemetery ordinance, budget amendments, sewers and other topics.

The Board of Trustees will meet for its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at . The agenda has several items of interest, including the second reading of the township's proposed .

The ordinance, which would lay out rules and regulations for burials and maintenance at the township's cemeteries, was tabled earlier this year by the board but was put back on the agenda to address some rising issues within the township regarding cemetery services.

In November, township Treasurer Jay Brendel, who is also the cemetery sexton, was questioned about the township positions. At the Nov. 15 meeting, Brendel informed the board that he would ask the state attorney general to issue an opinion on the matter. At the same meeting, Trustee David Lewsley to be brought back to the board.

Township Supervisor Greg Baroni and other board members have stated concerns that Brendel holding both positions is a conflict of interest. Brendel has said he will not step down from either position and that he does not think there is a conflict of interest.

Brendel has held the position since 1987 and was appointed to the treasurer position last year following the retirement of former Treasurer Beverly Spoor.

Other items on the agenda for Tuesday include:

  • An update on the Bogie Lake Road . This project is a partnership between the township and Huron Valley School District that will result in the placement of a sewer main near . The school will then be hooked into the system.
  • A budget amendment to the 's D.A.R.E account.
  • Year-end budget amendments.
  • A presentation for a park donation from township Clerk Terry Lilley.
